Biomass

From biomass to green energy

Biomass refers to matter from recently living organisms utilized in the production of bioenergy.

This diverse and renewable resource includes various materials such as wood, wood residues, energy crops, agricultural manure, straw, and organic waste from both industry and households.

Biomass can be grown for the purpose of conversion to energy - such has been done for ages with firewood - or it can be recovered, like municipal and industrial waste, forest residues and animal manure and bedding.

In recent years, algae and other aquatic plants have become a promising source of biomass, not only for production of biogas, but also biofuels and bioethanol.

Our affiliated gas trading company,  Biogem A/S, is a partner of many biogas plants and supports them in their biomass supply.
