Infranode invests in two Danish biogas plants and establishes a new biogas platform with Renegas

The Nordic infrastructure investor Infranode has today completed the purchase of a 49 percent share in two biogas plants from Renegas A/S (Renegas). The investment marks Infranode's first biogas investment and the start of a collaboration to create a groundbreaking biogas platform, which will further accelerate the phasing out of fossil fuels. One of those two biogas plants is the first in Denmark to operate without the help of state subventions.

The acquired assets are Renegas' 'Thorsø' and 'Foersom' biogas plants, currently boasting an annual production capacity of up to 160 GWh of biogas. Notably, the 'Foersom' facility stands out as the first in Denmark to operate independently of state aid, exemplifying a remarkable achievement in self-sustainability. With Infranode's investment, the capacity of both facilities is planned to double before the end of 2026. For Infranode, there is an opportunity for further investments with Renegas, as the company has an established pipeline for acquisition opportunities and expansions.

Silas Harbo, Country Manager and Head of Investments in Denmark at Infranode, expressed the significance of this venture, stating, "We are constantly looking for new ways to promote the green transition, where infrastructure acts as a catalyst for innovation and progress. This investment marks an important step forward in addressing the development of sustainable agriculture and food production by removing emissions from manure – the primary source of greenhouse gases in these sectors, which are central to the Danish economy."

By harnessing new technologies, the facilities can play a crucial role in accelerating the development of next-generation green fuels for aviation and shipping. In addition, Renegas has a leading expertise in the sale of gas and green certificates on long commercial agreements as well as CO2 consultancy, which enabled them to bring to life a future-proof biogas plant, operating without subsidies.

"Renegas is a reliable and crucial partner for Infranode, because their strong competences within certification and the sale of biogas on long commercial agreements support our strategy of providing essential infrastructure. Our approach is to be a long-term partner for local and regional communities and we are very happy to strengthen our collaboration, which enables us to explore new ways to unlock untapped potential and leverage each other's expertise to close the gap between where society is today, and the needs of the future", says Silas Harbo.

"As a unique platform for the development, acquisition and operation of biogas plants, Renegas has a key function in the phasing out of fossil fuels in a number of sectors. Our partnership with Infranode – based on our strong convergence of vision – has positioned us to make a significant mark on the green transition, and we are very excited to take the next step on this journey", says Knud Boesgaard, CEO at Renegas.

The acquisition will not affect Renegas' brand or lead to changes in the company's personnel, operations or customer service.
